I stopped this newly released DvD in the opening credits to start this topic , cuz I hope others picked it up too and discussion will ensue ! Fact is, the name for a sub-board Calandra envisioned came unto me, and I wanted to "jot it" into existence. Back to Juno now, Dave . . . .

And I bookend the movie by returning here as the end-credits play. I'm sure I could work up the kind of pseudo-professional review that Mighty Jack or a million other onliners like to post, but I'll keep it simple :
It was the most current kind of wonderful I could imagine. An up-to-the minute blend of real, sardonic, touching and funny. I was a tad worried in the first couple scenes that the "clever dialogue" would overpower it . . . a line like "Honest to blog ?" rang slightly more as "written" then real, but it soon found it's balance. I've always , since the 60's gave way to the 70's, been beyond a "mega-feminist" and just subscribed to righteous common-sense. You know ? . . . why are these things even still an issue ? And a film like this is empowering because it isn't about empowering it's characters in any grand, earthshaking way. Merely some human growth . . . how refreshing !
I give it 5 ✩✩✩✩✩'s and also 2 ☃☃'s !

I thought Juno was cute. Not much else to say about it really. I didn't think it was as earth shattering as some people made it out to be. Ellen Page is a very intelligent person, and that came across in the work, but I dunno, it seemed like she was too smart for a 16-year old. There are definitely geeky and snarky 16 year old girls, but it didn't seem real to me.
And Jennifer Garner's character was a nutso. I wouldn't have given a baby to her, no matter how cool and handsome her husband was. I dunno, I think I'm just freaked out by women who obsess about having babies to the point that they don't notice the rest of their life is falling apart. Creeps me out.
And what the heck was with Juno and the husband? I thought at any moment there was gonna be some underage preggo naughtiness going on there, and I felt weird about it. On one hand, they seemed like a good match. On the other hand, that is sooo wrong on so many levels!
But overall, I came out of the theater amused. God's gift to cinema? No. Worth the eight dollar ticket price? Sure.

I have to go along with every bit of that actually. The teen characters did have a bit of that "words too wise for them" thing that one accepted in "Peanuts" ( if that's still a well-known enough reference ). I don't disown my "hot off the viewing" review of last night , but I had just gotten "rid of" an uninvited house-guest who'd put me thru 2 weeks of prissy, prima-donna crises. It was pretty much a round-the-clock nightmare , and I watched "Juno" only hours after stashing his butt in Staten Island . . . so my "view-mood" may have been extra euphoric ! ;D
