Soooo...who's checking it out this weekend?
I wouldn't classify myself as a Trekkie or anything like that, but I've always liked the original series (and the movies), so I was very skeptical about this reboot. How can you replace Shatner and Nimoy???
But I dunno...the trailers have grown on me. I feel like the guy who plays Kirk is pretty generic (again, I can only glean so much from the trailer), so hopefully he doesn't suck. But I'm liking Spock. Then again, I've always liked Spock. ;D
So I'll be checking it out. I'm getting pretty excited. This could either be the best or worst thing to happen to the franchise, but I have a pretty good feeling!

I'm pretty sure I'll see it sometime in theaters, maybe not immediately though. And yeah, even though I'm far from a hardcore fan, I've always enjoyed the old episodes.

I liked it a lot. I had some problems with it, but it had a fun energy that's been missing in Trek for at least the last decade.
The actors were decent to good in general, and the guy playing McCoy was absolutely spot-on. Simon Pegg as Scotty also stole the show, as expected.

I just saw it, and I really enjoyed it. I only had a few problems with it, like, well - remember in the trailer when young Kirk recklessly drives that antique car while badass music plays, and he drives the car off the cliff while jumping out of it? Remember how retarded that was? Yeah, it was retarded in the movie too. Actually any scene where Kirk did anything left me wanting to sew up my vajayjay just to avoid the risk of accidently mating with a man like him. But then, it made the scenes where Kirk gets the crap beat out of him or otherwise harmed (and the movie provides this in spades) even more enjoyable, so it all worked out. XD This isn't to say that I thought the actor did a poor job as Kirk, he was a great Kirk, but I like Picard more anyway. ;P

I just got back from it. I'm in shock. THIS WAS THE GREATEST MOVIE EVAR. Kirk was okay (I mean let's face it, Shatner is untouchable), but the Kirk fight scenes that we all love were there in full force.
But for me, the person that stole the show was hands down the guy who played Spock. Spock was my favorite character in the original series (I fangirled him quite a bit in my younger days), and man, this guy soooooo did Nimoy justice, and he was gorgeous to boot! So yay! I got a new person to fangirl out of the deal! Oh, and I got a new couple to ship as well!! It's an embarrassment of riches I'm experiencing!!!
And just little things...fanservice stuff that I really appreciated. "Dammit Jim!", "Fascinating", Kirk making out with green women, the Red Shirt died, Pike still got his ass in a wheelchair, trying to determine what the hell Uhura's first name was...I loved every minute of this. All we need is a tribble and we're good to go!! ;D
The only thing that made me go WTF was Winona Rider as Amanda. How the hell is she playing Spock's mom? How does that make any sense? On a smaller scale, Tyler Perry as the academy dean was also an odd choice. XD
But yeah...this fan is definitely pleased. I'm very excited to see where the series goes from here!

LOL, both of those are hilarious! The Leonard Nimoy d*ckheads line was absolutely golden, as was Chris Pine trying to sort out all the continuity crap in the Star Trek series. But I've decided - like Leoonard Nimoy before him, Zachary Quintos is only hot when he has the bowl haircut and the pointy ears. Cause he just looked like a douche in that sketch. He didn't act like one, but I was distracted by his beard-that's-not-really-a-beard and his weird hairstyle. Put the ears back on and shave your eyebrows and we can talk baby. ;D
And like always, the Bum Reviews are awesome. Though don't click on it if you don't want spoilers, lol (so I edited you post to say as much, Robyn - hope you don't mind). Then again, if you've ever watched a Bum Review you should know that he's all about the spoilerage anyway, lol. WRITER'S DODGE!!!

Oooooooh, burned Robyn! But in all fairness, I'll state the thing that will likely make me lose my nerd cred. The Voyage Home is better than The Wrath of Khan. Yeah, I said it. ;D

There's half a great movie in The Voyage Home ;D ? ? Yeah . . . and it's interwoven within the other great half ! Right in the same flick too. It is superb and contains 2 dozen emotional peaks for me. It is the best, and yet I'm not down on any of `em. Even V is better then the accepted dog-pile of judgement it carries with it. True, the budget for the end fell out, hence a "supreme being" that was a let-down & downright comical at moments. ( when he pursues Kirk and appears behind him on hill ? . . . and goes "Oooooh" ? . . . it sounds like it's going to lead into "I'll give you such a pinch !!", but other then that, it's certainly worthy and has many great moments. oh . . . wait ! . . . . . "Voyage Home" rules !!

Hehe, I always liked V as well. But when it comes to Star Trek, I'm more about the characters than the storyline, so seeing the characters in humorous situations (like Checkov in the hospital or Kirk falling off the mountain) means a lot more to me than if the plot makes any sense. ;D Either way, I can't wait until exams are over. cause I swear, I'm gonna go see this movie like twelve more times, lol! Man...now I'm thinking I should dress up as 1960's Uhura for Comic Con. That's straight up Trekkie territory though, and I don't know if I can let myself go to that level of geekdom! * In other news, Queenie can't seem to shake this atrocious new habit where I'm editing other people's posts as opposed to responding to them. Thankfully, only Katana's was destroyed in the Queenie Quake of 2009, but damn. I should just stop posting, lol.

So did you see the new film yet, Big? No, but you guys have got me "droolin'" to ! I'm pleased to hear that Keith Urban "nails" McCoy, as one review put it . . . Bones was always a favorite and often overlooked as an important part of the cast, plus the "glue" between Kirk & Spock, or somethin' like that. Even tho' I'm very thrown by being back at the taxi job grind of working 10 to 12 hours and having such a fleeting evening after, and the fact that I need to do so much with this apartment, I still find myself thinking I'll go after work one night soon . . . or maybe the weekend ! I love a big-screen viewing, yet I'm more and more put off over the years by sharing that experience with an actual audience. ( the bums !! ) I mean, it always looks like it's going to be great, and right as the previews end, here comes some nudnick , with his rowdy friends, and their 4 month old baby, wearing huge hats, eating rattle-bag snacks, while answering the phone . . . . it's off putting even !

Well, I can't speak for your particular theater, but when I went to the 9 PM showing on opening night, the manager actually came in several times before the feature started to give announcements. They even turned sound off during the pre-show at one point just to make sure that every single audience member heard his instructions. This has never happened before, and I go to plenty of opening night shows for movies. His rant went as follows: " Turn off your cell phones or put them on vibrate (he did not say please, lol) . If I come in here and see the little light on your phone, you will be asked to leave, and you will get a refund and can come back another time.
If I catch anyone talking, you will be asked to leave and you will get a refund and come back at another time.
If you have brought a child, keep them quiet. If you cannot comply, and your child becomes disruptive, you will be asked to leave and will get a refund and come back another time." This guy was not playing. Not once was there a disturbance in that theater during the entire show. I don't know if the management feared the wrath of angry Trekkies, or that they just knew this movie was a huge deal. But to me, it really said something that they would go to that effort to actually communicate the rules that are supposed to be common sense. Every theater is different, but this might be one of those cases where going to a packed evening show on the weekend might be your best bet, cause I doubt they went to that much trouble during the 11:00 AM showing, when grandmas and babies are more likely to be present. ;D

Wow, sounds like he'd recently switched over from his job as Principal Skinner ! I'll hafta' consider coming down to that theater !
BTW, if you're fangirlin' over Mr. Quintos as Spock, you'll eventually have to check his run as Sylar on "Heroes". 3 seasons.... from the beginning.... where will you find the time ??

Just came from seein' it with my two brothers, it's last day on our local IMAX screen too ! Looooooved It !!Superb n' near-perfect ! I echo many sentiments already expressed here . . . . so let me now add 2 other notions : After some feeling of umbrage that they were recasting Star Trek, I realized yesterday that this is what all truly iconic characters must do . . be continually "reinvented" and the torch passed on. I mean, I believe we've had a few different Superman treatments in the past 60 years . . . not to mention several Hamlets . . Robin Hoods . . . etc. To say nothing of James Bond ! But I believe J.J.'s film here struck a beautiful blend of homage & freshness. Bones especially. ( and I'm a first generation / first run fan ! ) Here's a related matter that I can't believe finally came together earlier today, as I anticipated tonight's attendance. The text is from the email I sent to brothers Thom & Jim : I been try'na get this shot for 2 months since I noticed at a West Nyack Dunkin'. And I finally get a good shot of their "new" Enterprise Bridge Shirt Colors on the day we're probly Trekkin' ?!!?In the middle ? . . . it's Captain Perk !!

Just got back from seeing the movie and it was AWESOME!!!! Started kinda slow but once the action got going, I was really having a blast. Simon Pegg totally stole the show, but really all the actors did a great job. it was cool to see Leonard Nimoy again too.
