After a Sunday lunch, I felt a little wave of weary and stretched-out for a bit, popping on cable to see what might be on. Quickly I found "2001: A Space Odyssey" on Retroplex and it was early in the film . . . as Dr. Heywood Floyd was on his way to the moon.
What struck me thruout these sequences was how good the computer display screens were done. Not only does the film have a grandeur ( and a "slow" pace that prob'ly drives a lot of modern kids all fidgety n' nuts ), but what I'm pointing out in particular is the displays and ship shots. They not only "still hold up". but the displays look better & more "timeless" then movies made into the late 80's, where graphics are barely beyond Pong !. I mean, how many movies like a "War Games" do you see where lousy, dated computer screens momentarily knock you out of the narrative ? Yet "20o1" still holds up !
no ?

Oh, this is one of my absolute favorites, as is its sequel. And you're completely correct about the timeless quality that it possesses. Not once during my many viewings of the movie have I ever been distracted by the datedness of the equipment or science that is shown.
Haha, I like your addition. Nice to have a MST shoutout like that. :]
