Well it's just astoundingly good is what it is, right ?
Now that we're up to it's DVD release ..( well, the first phase anyway . . . either there's future editions with commentaries and a better range of features, or I didn't choose among all the current editions correctly ).. it's still up for discussion.
Out of all the "Batman in a real world" touches and underpinnings, there's one moment I've re-watched a few times . . . . it's just the realest little "action beat" to me.
The convoy is taking Dent to "County", they're diverted to lower 5th Ave., and the attacks commence quick. ( "SLaughter is the best medicine" ! ) As "The Tumbler" leaps to intercept the bazooka shot and receives its death-blow, it goes into some pretty amazing tumbling indeed . . . . but it's the way the armored-car with Dent in it then skids to a stop that strikes me as so real ! I mean, that's just as it would be ! You really feel that moment.
And this in a flick that's so damn stacked with coolness and cleverness !!
and yes, Heath Ledger is every bit as perfect as we've all heard.

I really liked the movie. And I thought Heath Ledger was excellent. But I don't know, I just don't like Christian Bale as Batman. His "Batman voice" was just painful for me to hear, and it really took some of the seriousness of the film away for me because he sounded so ridiculous. He was like a drunken Cookie Monster with a mouth full of cotton! But that's just a peeve of mine. Like I said, for the most part I really liked the film, but I don't feel compelled to own it. When I'm ready, I'll rent it so I can watch the Rifftrax though.

When I'm ready, I'll rent it so I can watch the Rifftrax though. Yeah, the "Bat-voice" would be the one thing I had to kind'a reach to accept. But you figure he'd want to vary from his normal Bruce Wayne voice, it makes sense of course. But why quite that far ? Like Rifftrax sez : "All this in spite of the bat suit causing our hero to grumble like the offspring of Tom Waits and Cookie Monster. There is nothing at all silly about that. We here at RiffTrax regret even having to point out that he sounds like your Great Aunt Vivian sending you out for her third pack of Pall Malls of the day. Because The Dark Knight is not just a superhero movie. It's a gritty crime drama about political corruption and the choices men make that just happens to involve a superhero. A superhero millionaire that dresses as a bat whose voice sounds like your cat heaving up a hairball into your slippers who battles a guy with half a face named Two-Face"

I would say it's a phenomenal movie, in almost every respect. It and WALL-E are easily the two greatest movies I've seen released this year.
The few problems I have (the Batvoice - although it's not as bad outside of a giant theater sound system - and a few bits where I think they extended Batman's magical gadgetry too far) are far outweighed by the tight structure and emotional resonance of the story. The interrogation scene in particular is incredible, and the conclusion of Dent, Gordon, and Batman's stories never fails to move me. I think the film's about as close as summer blockbusters have gotten to greatness.

I'm one of those awful people that liked it, but that's about the point to which my appreciation for the film reaches. I've never been one for traditional comic book heroes, but I do love most action movies.
Heath, of course, did an amazing job, and he was the one aspect of the movie that really held my attention.

Guess it's time to shun you, then. Oh well. Oh, please, no. Not the shunning! Am I to be excommunicated from the Church of the Fangirl? If this were the Christian Bale/Batman Fangirl forum, yes. You would be tarred and feathered, had rocks thrown at you, and possibly set on fire. XD But since our focus is on the cute boys of an obscure cow town puppet show, you're still good. But if you diss that, some of us will need to make a trip to the store for some lighter fluid.
