Good news was announced today in the Lost fandom universe! The premier date for Season 5 has been moved up to Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. Woo! The original date had been set for sometime in February. So, any fellow Losties lurking around these boards? What do you hope to see in Season 5? Any burning questions you can't wait to have answered?

I followed the show religiously during Seasons 1 and 2. I also watched most of Season 3 but due to being busy, I would miss a few episodes. And Lost is one of those shows that if you miss episodes you're pretty much screwed because you have no idea what's going on. So I missed Season 4, therefore I can't jump into Season 5. I still like the show, but I have a lot of catching up to do.

I blew through S1 and 2 on DVD before S3 was aired. Midway through that season, I started getting too busy also and missed some episodes. To be honest, at some point in that season, they just started losing my interest. I felt that they were meandering about too much. I'm hugely interested in shows with major story arcs, but I just felt the writers just lost something around that time. From all I've heard, the fourth season was a big step up, but I'd just lost interest by that point. The only episode I watched was Desmond's "unstuck in time" one, which was very good.
I really want to get back into the show now that it seems to be headed in a more definite direction, and I'm just trying to figure out if I should play catchup or wait until it's all over and enjoy it at my leisure.

It does tend to have a million little story threads that either don't really go anywhere, or show up two seasons later, when you're like "Ohhhh, that's what that was about."
Oh, I loved Desmond's "unstuck in time" episode. I love that kind of stuff, and the Billy Pilgrim/Slaughterhouse-Five references made it even more delicious.

I just realized all sorts of old episodes are available on abc.com. Now I've caught up on the couple of season 3 episodes I missed and I'll be going through season 4.

Season 4 is generally thought of as one of the better seasons; better than Season 3, anyway. And unlike the usual empty promises of Lost commercials, this season actually answers some pretty imperative questions.

Does it answer why Jack's beard looks so goofy? Also, I watched the S4 opener. Good stuff, and like we've been alluding, the end of season 3 and this episode really feel like they're accomplishing stuff more than the earlier S3 episodes I'd seen.

The season is very watchable. I'm near the end, and it seems like it alternates between decent episodes and classics. So far there have been two or three of the all-time best, a number of solid ones, and a couple that needed some work. Not bad at all for a show like this.
The Shape of Things to Come was easily one of the best, along with The Constant, which I mentioned earlier. The last one I watched was Cabin Fever, which was just about up with those two.

Done and done ;D
I really liked the season overall. It's hard to say for sure as it's been ages since I watched the first two seasons, but I think it was the best since the first. Like I've been alluding to in my other posts, it really felt like they had a good idea where they were going with the story now, rather than just biding their time making up random stuff. As I mentioned, this season had a couple of all-time best episodes, and I really liked a lot of the ending. I'd figured out what they meant by "moving the island" before it happened, and the scene met my expectations. I loved the more overt references this season to what's going on with the flow of time around the island.
What really stood out this season, though, was Ben Linus: suddenly, he's the most intriguing character on the show. Maybe he was developing that way later in season 3, but I just saw him as a good, if unexceptional, villain up to that point. Now there's so many tantalizing bits and pieces of his past almost revealed - he's still a monster, but his motivations are far more complex than I'd expected. He and Locke are my favorite characters, and the biggest downside to the ending was splitting them up.

Holy crap, I'm glad I saw this. I just got back from a business trip and was so sure I missed the premiere I forgot to check the schedule. Looks like they're still in recap/discussion mode

Well, well, well.
I'm glad the suspense over what happened when the island disappeared is no longer...but geez, the new plot device with the rapid-fire time travel will keep things interesting. O___o;;
Any other thoughts?

I wrote a few thoughts over on the other board, but I liked it a lot. I love time travel as a plot device, even though it can become cheesy or cliched pretty easily. The way they're using it harkens back to the Desmond episode last season in some ways, which is pretty cool.

I agree about the possibility of the time travel becoming a bit hokey/over-used. Here's to hoping that they use it wisely. :]
