It turns out I'm not so big on giving a full review or synopsis, which others love to do anywho . . . But I was emailing w/ my brother Thom around 7 pm and I hadn't fully decided where my evening was going next. When he said he was about to go to his local theater to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, unless I wanted to talk him into a bigger screen near me, it was perfect timing !! I see few movies in the theaters these days and this was tops on my "must-list". Plus the fact that temps were in the 90's today meant an air-conditioned ride and theater would be oh-so delightful !
So . . . . wait . . . . oh, the movie !!
Just about perfect I'd say. All the right moments that brought Indy into the time-frame of the 50's. Just the right amount of call-backs to the series too ! New moments like the way Indy deals with a blow-gun also felt classic. And the cinematography , shot-for-shot, was beautiful.
I don't go much for "rating" things, but I'd say it's the 2nd "best" of the 4 . . and I love me some 2 & 3 !
It's also got just the right amounts of Speilberg and Lucas, if ya' know what I mean. The Russians cutting thru the Amazonian forest seemed so Lucas, but it totally belonged.
I could go on, but I shouldn't or I'll cause spoilage !

I thought Indiana Jones was awesome. Did it get completely batshit ridiculous at times? Absolutely (refrigerator and swinging with the monkeys? Really?)! But it was a great popcorn movie. I had a lot of fun. Number two is probably my favorite, but I think this one comes next on my list. It didn't take itself too seriously, and I appreciated that. "Call it a rope!" Hahahaha!!! And Indy's big goofy smile when he saw Marion again after all those years made me fall in love with the man all over again!

Yeah, that refrigerator "escape / ride" would've killed Roger Rabbit, but a great idea nonetheless.
I loved the use of snakes this time out.
And besides Indy's goofy grin when he first sees Marion, I thought they gave her some great moments as well. Her innate determination to take the vehicle over the edge to the river, then her satisfied yet loving "yes, dear" when Indy tells her "Don't ever do that again !" One moment bugged me tho' . . I may have blinked & missed something, but when they discover that opening the obelisk calls for letting the sand flow, the way they start bashing off all the "pieces" there ? . . . it just had a tone of "arrogant Americans".
Like I said, I think I looked over to my brother for a moment and missed sumpin', but what the hell . . . it was the 50's and we were much more like that then. I dunno'.
And with the way they gave moments to Brody & Henry Sr., I wish they'd found a way to have John Rhys-Davies pop up as Sallah. Maybe it was in an earlier draft and felt forced ?
Who knows what the DvD will reveal come the end of the year ?

We had a major thread revival for this over at the discussion board, for the two or three weeks before the film came out. I ended up rewatching the older films - "Last Crusade" is definitely my favorite. The hilarious interaction between Connery and Ford really holds up, and counteracts any "been there already" feeling that the third film had. "Raiders" is definitely the second best, and I still can't find myself thinking anything but "meh" for "Temple of Doom." It's not a terrible film, it's just not that good, either, in my opinion. Here's my quick write-up for the Crystal Skull:
The bottom line is that it was one of the three films I'd consider "good" in the series. Definitely flawed, but a whole lot of fun. There's no way I could even pretend that "Raiders" or "Last Crusade" are perfect, either, so there's no use for me holding this one to a higher standard.

It was a fun ride and I enjoyed it. I've seen it twice now, the first time with my Mom and the second time was in Austin with Cerrita, Mitchell, Truck Farmer, RAD and Mary Jo. Highly enjoyable
