First it was reading into Mike's little rant about prop comics in Movie Megacheese, but I was reading the Season Seven portion of the Episode Guide that was written for Satellite News. A reflection from Kevin Murphy about the final episode of the season, Laserblast, and what he was going to do with himself afterwards (remember, they weren't sure the show was gonna be back):
It had been the best experience of my life. And I was determined not to tamp it down and head out to LA to become a development whore or sit in a room writing bad comedy for someone else. Living in Silver Lake, throwing pencils at the ceiling with a bunch of goateed Harvard losers and grinding away on the next episode of Monkeyshit Follies was my idea of Hell.
Hmmm...Joel was in L.A. working on random development stuff, and Trace and Josh were doing AFV (which is never funny)...harsh words from Mr. Murphy about our boys, or just venting in general? I've always dismissed Mike's crack as being all in good fun, but Kevin has always seemed a bit more abrasive to me (maybe it's just how he is on the show, I dunno), so I feel he could actually mean what he was saying, knowing full well who could be involved in that statement. What do you, the viewers at home think?

Nah, I think Kevin was just referring to the path that so many end up taking. It's more like us fans to see connections like "ooh, he's referencing the "West Brains".
"West Brains" -- that's great !! Has that been around as a designation already, or did you just invent that ?

I'm sorry to say I did not invent the term West Brains, though I wish I did! It's been around for a while...I think I first heard that term on the Satellite News website back when the show was still on the air.

Look, Queenie, I know what you're trying to do, and I'm telling you, you are not going to egg the guys on into some kind of mud-wresting fight, just let it go! I think Kevin is just voicing a feeling that they all have - I mean, I can't imagine Trace and Josh felt very happy or fulfilled working at AFV, nor can I see Joel being completely satisfied pitching ideas to a buncha network fatcats who are on a completly different page than him...and that's why he started up Cinematic Titanic. I imagine his phone call to Trace went something like this: "Hey, Trace, it's Joel, I was thinking, if you're not doing anything, I kinda had this idea for a movie riffing thing and I thought we could get together - " "YES GOD JEEZ GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE. ...er...*ahem*...what did you have in mind?"

Yeah...back when I read that Trace and Josh were working at AFV I thought "Wow, that sounds...pretty lame actually." XD; Maybe they wanted to do their part for society and try to make a lame show better? <__< So glad they can all work on CT without anyone messing with the product...just them and their ideas. That's the way it should be. <3

Yeah, AFV can't have been very satisfying. I mean, there's only so many jokes a person can make about a kid hitting his dad in the balls, y'know?

Edit:
I wrote a long rant here yesterday about why I thought Kevin's comments really were a jab at the others. But in thinking about it more last night, I came to a change of attitude. Not a change of heart; the impression I got from his words hasn't changed. I just realized that whether his comments were directed at the others or not, who am I to judge? I don't know Kevin. Speculating about his motivations is futile, gets me nowhere, and in the grand scheme of my life -really doesn't matter. Furthermore, who am I to spoil anyone else's opinion of him? He can do that himself. Maybe one of us will be brave enough to ask him about it someday.
