D'oh! Queenie, I literally just finished writing a report of Comic Con cause I always feel bad that you have to relay everthing cause me and Anchan are lame and never post. xP Oh well, I'll post a few tidbits you didn't mention:
On Thursday, after some confusion about exactly WHICH Marriot we were staying at, Anchan and I met at the Marriot conveniently located right next to the convention center. We were both exhausted from our journey so we checked into the room right away and chilled. Queenie arrived a short while later and since we didn’t have Comic-Con passes for Thursday (well,
Idid because I got a 4-day pass but there’s usually nothing interesting happening on Thursday) we explored the beautiful Gaslamp district, and Livia and I showed Anchan the Balboa Theater, where the RiffTrax Live Show took place last year. There were plenty of costumed folks wandering around, including a crowd of scantily-clad zombie chicks, advertising the upcoming movie
Zombieland.
On Friday we got up bright and early to check in to the con. After that we got in line for the ticket drawing…cause see, for the RiffTrax signing later that day you needed tickets. It was pretty confusing. The tickets had purple ladybugs on them!
While we were waiting for the ticket drawing we were accompanied by various other Msties, including a guy in a Dr. Horrible costume with his adorable baby boy. Actually there were a LOT of babies at the con, go figure. Anyway, after that we checked out the dealers room and found the RiffTrax booth. Just across from it was a booth selling, I swear to God, Star Trek cologne and perfume. There were fragrances with names like
Red Shirt (“For the man who lives for today”),
Khaaaan (“Engineered to be superior”),
Tiberius (“Boldy go”) and, Queenie’s favorite,
Pon Farr (“Drive him crazy”). xD
Later on (after a brief scare where I thought I had lost my wallet AND my purple ladybug ticket) we got in line for the RiffTrax signing, which took place right next to the Adam West signing, so that was cool. This was the pink shirt day, and I’m pretty sure Mike is even hotter now than he was last year. X3 Hanging out near the table was Bridget, along with Mike’s
sexy hot handsome very nice boys. Queenie noted that one looks just like Mike while the other looks just like Bridget. Like Queenie said, "Torgo" was there as well and the boys seemed excited to see him, insisting they get a picture with him. xD
Anyway, we finally got to the table where Bill immediately recognized Queenie (of course,
oh how I loathe her 8P ) and Anchan impressed the guys with her Emo Phillips cosplay. Me, I got sick right before Comic Con and it was getting steadily worse, so I was pretty focused on not sneezing on anyone. Still, I managed to get my 20th Anniversary Boxset signed, so now I have the signatures of the RiffTrax gang AND the Cinematic Titanic gang! (Now I just need to get Bridget and Paul Chaplin, as Queenie stated “
those are the rare Pokemon cards!”) I remembered to have Mike sign Kat’s copy of
Mind Over Matters, explaining that she couldn’t be there that day but she’s a huge fan. For this reason Mike signed it “To Ginger – Where are you?” xD I also gave him Kat’s comic, but he didn’t read it right at that moment, instead putting it aside and asking me to thank Kat, so I can’t say what his reaction was (which is what I was expecting, I certainly didn’t want to hold up the line any longer than I had to. I would furthermore like to stress to Kat that I’m sure he DID eventually read it and thought it was cute so stop worrying about it! You’re no sillier than anyone who ever sent fan letters to the show. xP ) Finally, we got a photo with the guys (unfortunately by this point Bridget and the boys had left, so no pictures of that) and we went on our merry way.
Later we went to the RiffTrax panel, making sure to get there early to avoid last year’s fiasco. We had to sit through a weird Marvel panel that insisted comic books brought to life through crappy animation was the future of comics, but it was a small price to pay. The RiffTrax panel started once Bridget and the boys took their seats in the front row, and the guys started riffing “Shake Hands with Danger” live. It was fun watching it with a crowd who would laugh heartily at the jokes and freak out when someone got horribly maimed or killed. After that, instead of having a normal Q&A, the guys asked
us to come up with suggestions for what movie to riff next (or at least in the near future) and to explain why it would be a good riff. They gave prizes of DVDs of the unMsted versions of some MST3K movies (like
Gamera and
Jungle Goddess to those who made suggestions they liked and/or were funny. I’ll try to remember some highlights.
Bill: (after a fan suggested
Commando) So what you’re saying is you want us to “go commando”?
Veronica the lovely host: You mean you aren’t? I thought that was part of the deal!
Fan: I have an suggestion for a movie to riff but uh, I don’t actually remember the name of…the…movie.
Kevin: That could be a problem.
Veronica: Well go ahead and describe it, maybe someone else will know.
Fan: Well it’s like, there are aliens in a supermarket –
Dude:
Aliens!
(They ended up deciding the movie was probably
The Mist.)
Guy: I wanna suggest
Speed Racer!
(The guys all visibly shudder.)
Bill: Nooo!
Mike: Sir, with all due respect, GO TO HELL. (pointing) Go on, go!
Guy: Which room is it in? ;D
(I might be getting this guy mixed up with the guy who unwisely suggested
Troll 2, which Mike has already done. Both times Mike’s reactions were hilariously hostile.) xD
Little kid: I wanna see a re-riff of
Mitchell!
Mike: I don’t think Joe Don Baker would let us live this time.
If you’re wondering where we were during all this, we were deliberating amongst ourselves what movie to suggest. Kat (who was sneakily listening in on Skype) suggested
Moulin Rouge, and we joked that we should suggest a movie that Cinematic Titanic has done. By the time we got organized we were out of time, oh well. They eventually decided on
Dragon Wars, which I’ve never seen but I’ve heard it’s very riffable. Later that night we met up with Erik aka Torgospizza at a nearby bar and got totally smashed…on Coca-Cola. Erik’s a pretty cool guy and I’m convinced he has the best job in the entire world. The evening came to an abrupt end when we started getting harassed by some drunk Navy guys who mistook Erik for a girl. We taught them a lesson…by politely answering their questions until we could pay our bill and leave. Oh geez, I just remembered, we saw a place called the Double Deuce! Shoulda gotten a picture of that…sorry, where was I? Oh yeah.
On Saturday we got up bright and early to go to the RiffTrax signing that day. By which I mean Queenie and
Anchan got up bright and early, my cold had only worsened so I was pretty dead. After taking about five tons of Tylenol I got there in time to join Queenie and Anchan in line. I had nothing left to sign so I bought the Reefer Madness DVD, since I’ve never seen that and Queenie said it’s pretty good. This time Bill recognized ME (8DDD!!!) and asked me how I was enjoying the con. I said I was having fun but I was pretty sick, and Kevin said “Well, don’t breathe on us!” Of course when we went behind them to take another photo, Bill said to me “Be sure to lay a big wet one on Kevin!” xP (Also also Mike said “LLLLadies…” *dies*)
After that we split up cause Queenie wanted to go to the
Heroes con to see Zachery Quinto and I wanted to go back to the hotel room and try to not die. Later on that night (after Queenie crashed in the hotel room because SHE got sick from ME – sorry hun! D8) I went with Anchan to the Masquerade, which is kinda like amateur night at the Apollo for geeks. The audience was almost as entertaining as the show, as most of them were there to mock the bad skits and costumes. There were some really good bits though, like a Muppets skit starring Statler and Waldorf (who felt right at home with the rowdy crowd), a very well-done stage version of “Laundry Day” from
Dr. Horrible, and Dr. Girlfriend from
The Venture Brothers singing her version of “Something Wonderful” from
The King and I. Also, after the contestants finished, Nichelle Nichols came out! (As I explained to Anchan “HOLY CRAP IT’S FREAKING UHURA.”) She’s apparently going to be in some webshow called
The Cabonauts, “the first sci-fi comedy musical.”
I wanted to go see the
Dr. Floyd show on Sunday so I could see Frank but unfortunately I slept right through it! D8 Also, Queenie had to leave early so I didn’t get to say goodbye! D8 Also, I had managed to get an extra pass for a friend so Anchan could go to the con on Sunday and see David Tennant! D8 Oh wait no, that’s a good thing. xP
So all in all it was a good time, though it would have been better if I hadn’t been sick and made Queenie sick. Also I probably got Anchan sick, and Kat will surely be sick after I send Plushie Forrester back, filled with my germs. And just to add insult to injury I’ll bet I got Mike, Kevin and Bill sick too, and now they’re too sick to do a RiffTrax. Oh well, it’ll give Cinematic Titanic a change to catch up. 8P
