Any fans of these guys? I've always liked their music; seeing the video to Daydream Believer is one of my earliest TV memories! But I just recently started watching their show...it's bizarre, fanservice-laden (well, by '60s standards I guess XD), and just plain fun! The Monkees: The unfortunately named Davy Jones! Short, English, and perfect '60s teen idol fodder! Known for playing the tambourine and dancing around in a cute/dorky kinda way. XD Micky Dolenz! Awesome singing voice, awesome energy, and awesome hair! Always a fun guy. Peter Tork! Very talented; can play 12 instruments! He's got the cutest goofy grin! ^__^ Mike Nesmith!Droll sense of humor and a Texas twang. I think he's lovely. >///< Looking kinda Joel-ish in this one actually! XD

I LOVE The Monkees. I remember when Nick-at-Night used to play old shows (not like Home Improvement and crap like they do now), and one summer for their "Block Party" they did Monkee Mondays, which was essentially a marathon of their episodes. I would watch every week. Over that time, I fell in and out of love with every one of the boys - starting with Davy, then Peter, then Mike, before finally deciding that Mickey was my one true love! Have you seen their movie Head? It's so very bizarre. Far more so than the TV show, and kinda dark. But it's awesome. ;D I got to see them in concert at a baseball game about 10 years back (minus Mike) and for the past few years Peter Tork has been playing at our town's Labor Day festival with his band, so I've actually gotten to meet him. He's a really nice guy!

XDD My mom thought I was facking crazy for watching it ['cause back then, I'd watch TV in my parents' room] but I was like "it's singing and stuff!" That made seven-year-old Kat happy. XD; But now that I'm older and have hormones, I gotta say, Peter is cute~ X3

Everyone seems to start with Davy. XD My stance on the matter...uh...I'd spend the day with Peter and the night with Mike. <3Not yet...gonna rent it one of these days. Luckeeeeee! T___T

I always watched the show growing up. Mike was always my favorite. And when I was in college, Micki's daughter, Amy, was a regular on General Hospital.

So yeah, Anchan, you've officially rekindled my love of the Monkees. I busted out a few of my old VHS tapes of episodes I had taped off a TV...and after watching about 10 hours worth of material, I went ahead and bought Season 2 on DVD (Nick at Nite only ever showed the first season).
And I'm watching Head right now. There's no story to speak of...it;s just one trippy psychedelic scene after another! It literally makes no sense. Though I can't believe this film got a G rating though. This movie was at the height of the anti-war sentiment of Vietnam, and there's definitely a clip of the infamous "Vietnam Execution" video shown. Y'know the one where the Vietnamese guy gets shot in the head...pretty graphic. So yeah, not what I would expect in a G film!
But the rest of it is so bizarre! I love it. Definitely not like the show at all, lol!
And I'm feeling conflicted again. Mickey was once my boy toy...but Mike is starting to look pretty good again... XD

Ah,"Head". Certainly a foundation fave of my brothers & mine. Did'ja know Jack Nicholson co-wrote ? So many stand-out scenes, like Mike's reaction to his birthday surprise. Or obviously memorable lines like "a glass of gravy with a hair in it"
And stellar songs like "Can You Dig It ?" !!

Yeah I know Jack Nicholson co-wrote it...he's even in the scene where Peter punches out the lady in the cafeteria. It's just so funny how crazy the movie is. I can't tell if it's a work of genius or a trippy mess, but I love it either way! Mike's birthday scene is definitely great. "And I'll tell you something else too...the same this goes for Christmas! *gigantic gasp from crowd*" Oh Mike, you lovable curmudgeon you! XD Or Davy's crazy song and dance number. Or when Mickey blows up the Coke machine in the desert with a tank after it took his money. And the songs really are great. "Porpoise Song" and "Circle Sky" are my favorites.

Actually I didn't mention a scene for all four. I forgot Peter. Poor sweet Peter. So here goes:
"Nobody ever lends money to a man with a sense of humor."
That and the fact that he whistles Strawberry Fields as he walks into the bathroom. ;D

Wow, this brings back memories. A guy in my high school used to wear a Monkees outfit to class on a regular basis - long-sleeved blue shirt with white buttons (like on Davy in the very top pic), and the too tight/too short gray pants. If memory serves, he wore white shoes and a white belt with this ensemble. This was back in the 80's, when MTV was re-running all the episodes. I can't say the other guys in our school reacted favorably to the costume, but some of the girls dug it. Bit foolhardy, in my opinion. Another kid opted for the more socially acceptable wool hat, a la Mike. I believe they had a better overall highschool experience.

If he wore the wool hat on top of it, it would all be over. I'm of the opinion that we need to drive men back into 60's fashions...this whole baggy pants thing isn't doing it for me. If we can get get guys back into tight pants and have 'em grow sideburns, life will be good again. ;D

One day, I would like to see a news story about some gang member whose life of crime is foiled by a baggy pants mishap.
Then I would like the baggy pants era to be over as well. The illusion of teeny little legs, super long torsos, and saggy bottoms containing who-knows-what horrors... is this twisted form of self-inflicted deformity really considered attractive?
Can't say I'm pro-tight pants either though...hilarity from inevitable split pants episodes aside...

One day, I would like to see a news story about some gang member whose life of crime is foiled by a baggy pants mishap. I've actually read several news stories about that! Some guy was robbing a convenience store, and as he was fleeing the scene he tripped over his too baggy pants so the cops were able to catch him easily. I mean geez, if you're gonna be a career criminal at least wear the proper work uniform!
