I'm sure a few of you know XTC. They certainly had some wise and devoted fans back on the FC Board ! One track you'd certainly recognize is Dear God < (( go on, click that !! )) Others you may know are "Senses Working Overtime" / "Making Plans For Nigel" / "Mayor of Simpleton" . . . but those are all songs with some airplay that any uninitiated soul stands a chance of having heard ! I'm hoping there's another true fan among our small cluster of members. They surely get a level of devotion 2nd only to some Beatle-type guys . . . and like them, they also grew and evolved thru their recorded span, offering a wide range : from simpler "new-wave" pop, to amazing songwriting on a rich tapestry of albums. I've been on an XT-binge lately, and just sent some tracks to Calandra . . at least one went straight into her iPod ( "Greenman" ) but then again, I've barely heard her reactions yet !

Woahhh! Sorry for the more than a year bump but this just made me too happy! XTC are kind of one of my favourite bands ever. <3 I remember my dad playing Senses Working Overtime and Generals and Majors and Making Plans For Nigel when I was younger, but it's only quite recently that I've really gotten into them and started collecting their albums. I don't really have a favourite, but I am very partial to Black Sea and Drums and Wires. It's just a shame that Colin and Andy don't seem to get on nowadays. D:

Jeez !, no apologies required.. or accepted even !! Replying to a cherished topic is good whenever, and a band that "lives forever" like XTC is always waiting for new fans and / or discussion among the flock. I hadn't heard it like "Andy & Colin not getting along" . . more like "Colin's just tired of playing the game of coughing up tunes for 30 + years", plus . . . if you've seen video-interviews, you know that Andy can be "a bit much" and Colin may well have felt steam-rollered over for years . . . just needed a break, or maybe a new life. I'm a full-fledged fan who knows the entire output, the fact that their fans are up there the devotion of Fab Four Fans ( few other bands evolved like The Fabs or xTc, huh ? ), and few other bands put out so many nifty B-sides n' stuff. I initially embraced them around "Drums & Wires" & "Black Sea" myself, which are rather equivalent to "Rubber Soul" or "Revolver", ey ? . . but have you stayed tuned in my dear ? Know ye' of "The Dukes", & "Skylarking", & "Nonesvch" and "Fuzzy Warbles", etc or Etc ?! Thanks for digging this thread out again. Boy !, I just logged-in ready to be depressed again by how many of my fave areas here were dormant or dead, and you bolstered me big time ! My first post in 2 months had sat inert for 4 or 5 days, but my hope is renewed. Hey !! . . I got so excited, I haven't even checked that one yet . . maybe "Trace's Fine Flooring" got a response too . . . or did I just press my lick ?

Oh cool! It just makes me happy to see someone likes these guys as much as I do (perhaps more!). XD
Yeah, I can definitely see where Colin is coming from though. And as for Andy "being a bit much"? Lol performers, amirite?
yeah
And I love The Dukes! Can't even pick a favourite track there, though I'm particularly partial to 25 O' Clock and Bike Ride To The Moon. Nonsuch? Mmmm, I've actually never listened to that one much... The Ugly Underneath is one of my all-time favs though. Skylarking is one of the best concept albums I've ever heard. Another Satellite is just beautiful. <3

I must clarify !! I tend to be a very loving, non-judgemental fan of those what I love. And even tho' Andy, with a camera or mic right in his face, can sometimes have an extra edge of "hyper-witty remarks spewing forth" . . he is without doubt one of the most unique & brilliant minds that evolution has yet achieved ! Even some of his throw-away lines have level upon level of hysterically clever about them. But then, that's shared with Beatley guys too ! . . their interviews & other aspects are all part of the package when exploring their world. But not every performer, especially one's with deep hearts and sensitive souls, can be "on" with equally sauve style everytime they're suddenly expected to be . . . yada, blahda. Here's a major-nifty from "Nonesuch". Twas a single, and was really the closest Andy came in awhile to writing a "Rocket from a Bottle" type upbeat item . . . more mature of course. And yeah, the video is perhaps their oddest and most uninspired, but a YouTube link is so damn handy ! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG3YTqOlIkIWatch once naturally, then replay while gazing at nothing.

Alright, This must get tossed into our XT- Chat. . right on schedule too. I googled "Colin Moulding today", and the 3rd or 4th result was an interview on "Rundgren Radio" from the end of 2008 : www.blogtalkradio.com/runt/2008/12/07/Rundgren-RadioRight away he's talking about involvement with a coming re-issue series, then having taken 2 years off due to disenchantment, but he's coming out of it and on increasingly better terms with Andy.
